SHORT STINT: BMW 128i convertible



The convertible version of the BMW 1-series isn?t our favorite, but that?s all relative when you consider that the 1-series ranks near the top of our short list of recommended cars on the market right now.

Because the hardtop coupe is so rigid, performing like a slightly heavy shifter kart when it comes to handling and braking, it?s particularly noticeable when you chop the top off. Cowl shake is accompanied by a loss of steering and handling precision that make the coupe such a winner.

The good news is that when you put the top down, it?s hard to really notice any of the shortcomings. It?s also likely that buyers who want the most out of their 1-series will opt for the hardtop, so none of this will matter to them.
