Though the government is encouraging electric vehicle adoption in India through FAME II and other related policies, Hero Electric CEO Sohinder Gill believes the Centre has little role to play in the electric vehicle space. Speaking to Entrepreneur India at industry event, Gill said Hero Electric is looking to come up with business plans which will not depend on government policies.

He also explained that the flip flop policies are one of the reasons behind lower sales of electric vehicles this year compared with previous years. According to a Bloomberg report, only 8,000 electric vehicles had been sold in India in the last six years. In addition, Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles data quoted by various media outlets show only 1,700 electric two-wheelers were sold in the quarter ended June this year.
