To help cut through the noise, we asked behavior science expert James Clear to share his best recommendation that can inspire us all to be better leaders. His choice was the book Meditations, written almost 2,000 years ago by Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius. (Clear says he prefers the translation by Gregory Hays.)

"There is an unbelievable amount of wisdom in that book that has stood the test of time," he says."If you can master the fundamentals of leadership, of motivating people and of life, really, you can bring your best energy and best qualities to the work you do each day."
