The Top 50 Schools That Get Down to Business

Entrepreneur and The Princeton Review Rank the Nation’s Top Entrepreneurship Education Programs

Irvine, CA (September 9, 2008)Entrepreneur magazine and The Princeton Review released today the sixth annual ranking of the top graduate and undergraduate entrepreneurship programs in the nation. Out of more than 2,300 schools solicited for survey data, a select 50 rose to the top. First on the list of 25 for undergraduate schools is the University of Houston, and among the 25 ranking graduate programs, Babson College leads the pack.

Babson College and Drexel University were second and third, respectively, in the undergraduate category. For the graduate program ranking, DePaul University and the University of Southern California took spots two and three. Experiential learning, courses in social and environmental entrepreneurship, and more involvement with nearby communities of business leaders are some of the emerging trends among schools.

All schools surveyed were evaluated based on key criteria in the areas of academics and requirements, students and faculty, and outside-the-classroom experiences. Robert Franek, The Princeton Review’s vice president of publishing, says the ranking shows that while there are overall trends, each program offers something unique for students, and that the ranking highlights “schools that are exceptional for specific reasons.”

“Aspiring business owners want not just to learn, but to do, and today’s top colleges are responding to that demand,” says Amy Cosper, VP/editor in chief at Entrepreneur. “We’re finding schools focus more on helping students determine an idea’s feasibility, plan and set up all aspects of a business, and network more with other entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. The opportunities keep expanding—and our ranking is an excellent launching point for a prospective student’s research.”
